Road District

Your co-operation with keeping the roadways clear is appreciated and essential for our snow plow drivers to clear roads as quickly as possible during winter snow events.

The Highway Commissioner will closely monitor winter weather conditions and declare a parking ban, as necessary to allow safe and efficient removal of anticipated snow. This will be publicly announced through local news media.

Within 6 hours of the announced parking restriction, all types of motor vehicle and/or trailers must be removed from the roads. It will be unlawful to park for 48 hours and may be extended beyond that time, depending on conditions. This extension will be publicly announced also.

Load limits will be in effect January 15th – April 15th.

Assessor

The office of the Township Assessor appraises property and places a value on it, according to the formulas set by the Illinois Department of Revenue. The Assessor will also assist residents with the completion of exemption forms, available through Tazewell County, for senior citizens, disabled veterans and disabled persons. Contact the Assessor to schedule an appointment.

Dementia Friendly Community

On 27 November, 2023, the City of Washington, Illinois was officially designated as the 30th Dementia Friendly Community in the state by Dementia Friendly America after acceptance of our plan.

Reduced Cost Senior (62+) Transportation

Washington Township sponsors a reduced ride transit service in cooperation with TDK Event Services for ‘Mobile Senior’ residents age 62 and over, who live in and are traveling within Washington Townships’ 61571 zip code area.

There is a $3 one-way charge to the rider for this service. The Township will cover the remaining cost.

The service has recently expanded to include medical appointments to Peoria, East Peoria and Morton for a $5 one-way-charge.

There is no limitation to the number of rides an individual can schedule.

You must contact the TDK Event Services in advance to schedule your ride and make them aware that you will be using the Senior Ride Township program. Their telephone number is

Currently, the service is available Monday-Friday from 8am to 5pm only.

Township Relief

General & Emergency Assistance (Township Relief) is available to residents of Washington Township and is administered through the office of the Township Supervisor. Payments are made directly to vendors. No cash or checks will be issued to applicants.

General Assistance is designed for individuals who do not have legal dependents in the home.  If approved, the grant is available for basic needs, such as:

  • Shelter
  • Utilities
  • Food
  • Transportation
  • Household and other personal essentials

Eligibility is based on financial and non-financial factors and will be reevaluated every 30 days.  Recipients must also participate in the Township’s workfare program.

Emergency Assistance is designed for households with dependent children or individuals exceeding General Assistance budget guidelines, have lived in the Township at least six months and have an emergent need, such as:

  • A housing late payment or eviction notice
  • A utility late payment or disconnect notice

Eligibility is based on financial and non-financial factors.  The amount of the Emergency Assistance grant varies based on need and family size and is only available once every 24 months with a maximum of three per lifetime.

For more information or to request an application packet, call the Township Supervisors office at 309-444-2987.  All application documents can be returned by dropping off at the Township office, emailing WashingtonTwp@gmail.com, or faxing (309) 444-3944. Once all the necessary documentation has been received, a caseworker will review the file and make a determination as to what type of assistance you may qualify for.

Youth Services

Washington Township formed a Youth Service Committee to help address the needs of township youth with regard to homelessness, delinquency, transportation and literacy. This committee was formed and approved by the Township Trustees by Township Ordinance on September 8, 2021 following Illinois Township Code (60 ILCS 1/215-5) authorization.

The youth committee consists of a representative from each local school district (except St. Patrick’s per their request) and one member at large from the community.

The Youth Committee presents projects to the Township Board of Trustees for funding. If funding is approved, the committee proceeds with the projects. Project cost receipts are submitted for Board approval as they occur. Project progress and/or results are also reported to the Board on a regular basis.
